ARTback - Sculptures of the Long Paddock

A mob of 400 Herefords, a couple of semi trailers travelling at 110 km per hour and 100 invited guests sounds like a recipe for disaster but last Friday night it proved to be just the right combination for the one of the most enjoyable and unique launches Australia has ever seen.

With the sun setting behind the now iconic Headless Horseman sculpture, Sam Armytage from Channel Sevens, Weekend Sunrise cut the ribbon to officially declare ARTback – Sculptures of the Long Paddock open. In her speech Ms Armytage encouraged all Australians to forget about the Gugenheim and the Lourve and visit these great pieces of art and history right on their own doorstop. After two years of hard work the Long Paddock Committee (LPC) enthusiastically joined their guests to release 300 balloons to mark the event. The crowd was then treated to a reenactment of the legend of the Headless Horseman by local drover Graham Mansell and his team.

The launch of the sculpture collection, known as ARTback – Sculptures of the Long Paddock, marks the completion of a ten year dream for the LPC and the award winning touring route. The touring route now boasts some of the most amazing permanent public artworks not only in NSW but across Australia.
